Norway Intelligence: Terror Threat or Attack ’Likely’ Within 12 Months
Local Editor
Norwegian intelligence authorities say the country "likely" will be threatened or an act of terror will be attempted in Norway within the next 12 months.
The Joint Counter Terror Center says so-called "Daesh" ["ISIL"], among others, has called for terror acts against countries that are part of the US-led coalition in Iraq and Syria.
The assessment says military staff, police and political decision-makers could be "exposed."
Norway meanwhile has said that it will send 120 soldiers to join the international campaign against militants in Iraq and help train local troops there.
Wednesday's assessment was not as high as in July, when the domestic intelligence agency said it had information about an imminent "concrete threat" from people with links to extremist fighters in Syria. The threat level eventually was downgraded.
