An administrative court in the Bahraini capital of Manama ruled that Al-Wefaq had "violated a law on associations," as a court official in the kingdom was quoted as saying.
Defence lawyer, Abdullah al-Shamlawi, said that the verdict meant all of Al-Wefaq's activities would be frozen for three months.
For its part, the group denounced the move, considering it a "crazy adventure," and stressing it is going on with demanding a democratic change in the country.
In a statement published on the group's website, al-Wefaq said: "The autocratic rule which has been gripping the country with fire seeks to destroy the political and social components through people elimination, autocracy through formal institutions and retaliatory rules."
Moreover, Al-Wefaq had already announced that it would boycott the November 22 election along with other opposition groups.
