A new Wall Street Journal/ NBC News poll finds that the US President Barack Obama's approval rating for foreign policy has hit a new low of 31% among registered voters, WSJ said on Wednesday.

US Poll: Obama Foreign Policy Approval Rating Hits New Low
Obama's foreign-policy ratings lag 11 points behind his overall job approval, which stands at 42%. That gap is the largest any US president has seen since Bill Clinton in 1999, according to the poll.

Among presidents' oversight of key foreign-policy situations during the last three decades, Obama's handling of so-called "Daesh" [ISIL] militants and the conflict in Syria ranks at the bottom of the list, with just 37% and 35% approval on those issues.

Meanwhile, foreign affairs were once a bulwark of sorts for this White House, an area where Obama continued to receive favorable marks even when his approval ratings for domestic issues fluctuated. However, approval of this president's [Obama] handling of foreign affairs has declined in the second term, and a confluence of challenges around the globe has further eroded the president's ratings.

Moreover, approval of Obama's handling of foreign affairs has deteriorated at a time when voters say such issues are significant. In the poll, the fight against Daesh militants in Iraq and Syria ranked third among issues that voters said would be important in deciding their vote for Congress on Nov. 4.
