Iran's foreign ministry on Wednesday condemned the brutal "Israeli" air raids in the Gaza Strip, calling on the West to urge the Zionist entity to prevent a "human catastrophe".

Iran Condemns ’Israeli’ Aggression on Gaza...AL Might Convene!

"We are, unfortunately, witnessing the escalation of savage aggression by the Zionists in recent days against the innocent and defenseless people of Palestine," ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said in her weekly briefing with reporters.

Iran called on "Western countries and supporters of the Zionist regime to take firm a stance and prevent a human catastrophe and stop the attacks," she added, while questioning an "unrealistic excuse of the kidnapping of three Zionist settlers".

While the Arab countries showed no action against the Zionist massacre is Gaza, Jordan, demanded Wednesday an immediate halt to deadly "Israeli" air raids against the Gaza Strip.

Government spokesman Mohammad Momani said that the raids that killed more than 20 Palestinians in purported response to rocket fire that has killed no one in "Israel" were "barbaric".

Jordan "condemns the military aggression that Israel has launched in the Gaza Strip" and calls for "its immediate halt", said Momani.

He said the "barbaric aggression" had "negative repercussions on the Gaza Strip and the whole region".

"Jordan demands "Israel" stop all forms of escalation. The international community should actively intervene to stop the "Israeli" aggression," Momani said.

"The "Israeli" actions violate international laws and obstruct peace efforts in the region," added the minister.

For its part, the Arab League called Tuesday for the UN Security Council to hold an urgent meeting to discuss the deadly "Israeli" air campaign against Gaza, Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi said.

An official from the pan-Arab bloc stated that al-Arabi had "instructed the Arab League's UN representative to initiate urgent consultations within the Arab group calling for an emergency security meeting of the Security Council."

Earlier, Palestinian Authority president Mahmud Abbas asked the international community to "immediately intervene to halt this dangerous escalation which would lead the region to more destruction and instability."

Al-Arabi said he had been "in touch with president Abbas to follow the latest developments in the Gaza Strip" while also continuing "consultations with Arab foreign ministers on this subject."

He denounced the "dangerous "Israeli" escalation" and warned against its humanitarian consequences in Gaza.

"The continued attacks on Palestinian civilians by "Israel" is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, the Geneva Convention and international resolutions on occupied Palestine," said the Arab League chief.

Meanwhile, the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation [OIC], announced it would hold an "extraordinary" ministerial meeting Thursday in the Saudi city of Jeddah to discuss the "intensifying and fierce Israeli campaign against Palestine".
