Al-Assad Visits Displaced Outside Capital: Russia Restoring Balance to World Stage

Syria President Bashar al-Assad made a rare trip outside the capital to meet people displaced by the country's three-year-old civil war, state media reported on Wednesday.
"President al-Assad is inspecting conditions for the displaced in Damascus province," state television said.
It further added that "al-Assad is touring shelters for the displaced... and listening to their needs."
The official SANA news agency said Assad was visiting people in Adra, northeast of the capital.
The town is considered a strategic gateway to Damascus and has seen frequent clashes between the army and rebels.
Earlier, al-Assad praised Moscow on Tuesday for restoring balance to international relations, state media reported.
"Russia has reestablished balance in international relations, after long years of hegemony" by the United States, SANA quoted al-Assad as saying as he received a Russian parliamentary delegation.
He described Moscow's role as "essential and vital," and expressed "the admiration of the Syrian people for Russia's positions."
In parallel, the Syrian President accused the United States and other Western governments of "acting to destabilize countries whose policies do not coincide with their own."
"That is why they work to destabilize the countries which do not agree with their policies."
SANA said the Russian delegation informed al-Assad he had been accepted into the Russian Academy of Sciences for having "strengthened Syrian-Russian relations."
The Russian delegation members spoke of the historical relations between the Syrian and Russian peoples and the common denominators binding them in terms of facing international imperialism and struggling to shield the sovereignty and independence of their countries.
They noted that the Russian people have since the beginning realized that the war waged against Syria targets the independence of its decision and the unity and culture of its people.
