Google has acquired SlickLogin, an "Israel"security startup that replaces passwords with high frequency sounds. SlickLogin was snapped up by Google just five months after launching, TechCrunch reported.

The startup announced the acquisition on its website and stated that Google shares its "core beliefs that logging in should be easy instead of frustrating, and authentication should be effective without getting in the way."

SlickLogin's sound authentication process works with SlickLogin-enabled websites sending a unique, almost silent tone that can be picked up by an app on the user's smartphone. The app then confirms your identity to the server the site is hosted on.

The SlickLogin system works in a similar way to passcodes sent to a mobile phone, which the user then has to type in to verify their identity. But the SlickLogin sound-based authentication is faster, as the app analyzes the sound automatically.

BBC News reported that the technology could be used to replace traditional passwords or used as part of a two-step verification process.
Google's acquisition of SlickLogin comes at a time of increased concerns over password security. As more tech companies, including Kickstarter, Adobe and Yahoo, suffer security breaches, users are becoming more aware of their vulnerability.

The details of the Google-SlickLogin deal haven't been disclosed but the acquisition reportedly cost Google several million dollars, per Entrepreneur. SlickLogin has just three employees and was founded less than a year ago in Tel Aviv. SlickLogin is Google's fifth "Israeli" acquisition, after iRow, Waze, LabPixies and Quicksee.
