In response to President Hassan Rouhani's congratulatory message, Imam Khamenei said the achievement could serve as a "basis for future prudent measures."
Imam Khamenei called on the Iranian negotiators to continue to resist any excessive demands in the future.

After more than four days of intensive negotiations, Iran and the Sextet - the US, Britain, Russia, France, China and Germany - sealed an interim deal in Geneva in the early hours of Sunday.

In the deal, the Sextet has agreed to several measures including enabling the repatriation of an agreed amount of Iranian revenues held abroad and suspending the EU and US sanctions on insurance and transportation of Iran's crude.

The EU and US sanctions on Iran's petrochemical export, gold and precious metals and auto industry as well as the supply of spare parts for the Iranian airplanes would also be suspended.

Furthermore, no new sanctions will be imposed against Iran by the UN Security Council, the EU or US.

In return, Iran undertakes measures including capping uranium enrichment to five percent for the duration of six months as stipulated in the agreement. Tehran has also agreed not to advance activities at Natanz, Fordow and Arak facilities and to allow more inspections of its nuclear facilities and further increase its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency as part of confidence-building measures.

On another note, Imam Khamenei hailed the Iranian Navy's great achievements, underlining the significant position of the country's naval forces in the face of existing threats in the Middle East.

In an address to a group of Navy commanders and personnel on Sunday, Imam Khamenei, who is the Commander-in-Chief of Iran's Armed Forces, said "Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution [in 1979], the Iranian Navy has made much progress."

The Leader added that the Iranian Navy is important because of its scientific advances and operational value.

"Because of the policies in the region and certain existing threats it [the Navy] enjoys special political and military position [in the region]," Imam Khamenei said.

"The main goal of the Navy should be creating and organizing a military force befitting the Iranian nation and the ideals of the Islamic establishment," noted the Leader.

In recent years, Iran Navy has been increasing its presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and tankers.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly asserted that its overseas naval presence is meant to convey a message of peace and friendship to regional countries.
