Young activist in the UK have started a campaign as the new Hijri year begins, commemorating the event of Ashoura on the tenth of the hijri month Muharram.
"A unique group of youth from various walks of life and ethnic origins", as they describe themselves, have joined together to introduce a personality who fought for peace and justice: Imam Hussein, the Grandson of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh).
Dubbed ‘The 10th Day- Imam Hussain(a.s) Awareness Campaign', the group has set up a website that enables interaction, in such a way that spreads the truth about the plight of Imam Hussein and his household (pbut), allows people to write and share their stories on the topic, and learn more about the details of Karbala.
The group of activists have located flags and banners across Manchester city in the UK. "We have located flags and banners throughout Muharram in Manchester, UK. We will not be stopping here, the Campaign aims to spread the message of Hussein throughout the country,"
Also banners are set across double decker buses all over Manchester.
"The event of Karbala marks the greatest sacrifice for the sake of God in the human history. The minute and stunning details of this great event have been written and survived from the very first day by the eye witnesses," reads the website.
It adds "For the last fourteen hundred centuries, the battle of Karbala reflects the collision of the good versus the evil, the virtuous versus the wicked, right versus the wrong, and the collision of Imam Husain (the head of virtue) versus Yazid (the head of impiety)."
The website also quotes famous characters, such as Mahatma Ghandi, the Cambridge Proffesor Edward G. Brown and other historians and authors who have written about the battle of Karbala and the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (a.s.).
Imam Hussein is just one of the many personalities we treasure but he enjoys a very special status due to the unprecedented sacrifices he offered in the face of tyranny.
