Former Minister Wiam Wahhab said that the next round of efforts expected to be made by Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa will not entail anything new.
"The reason for the Arab initiative's failure lies within the initiative itself," Wahhab told the Qatari daily Al-Watan.
"Moussa's new mission will be to waste time and postpone any street confrontations. He is coming to suggest something we already rejected. He wants to suggest an initiative that was born dead," he added.
"The Dahiyeh incidents, which resulted in death and injuries for several people, have thrown General Sleiman's candidacy into question," Wahhab said.
He also called on Sleiman to prove his neutrality through a serious investigation into the protests.
"We are facing a dead end that will be prolonged for months until the US project in the region decreases or is completely brought down," Wahhab said.
He also said that the Taif Agreement is outdated and ruled out the convening of the Arab Summit in Damascus.
"The solution does not lie in a new Taif, but through a dialogue aimed at interpreting it," Wahhab said. "I have the feeling that the recent assassinations of army and ISF officers are linked to the Nahr al-Bared confrontations," he added.
Wahhab said that MP Walid Jumblatt is responsible for the security and political situation behind the recent assassinations and attacks.
