Like every year, Palestine Detainees day consumes great importance, especially in light of the latest events related to the situation of detainees in "Israeli" prisons. These detainees have been suffering increasing torture and clashes with the jail administration, according to Riyadh al-Ashqar, the media director of the "Palestinian Detainees Studies" center.

Palestine Detainees Day: Honoring the Heroes Who Defeated the Occupation and Its Warden In an interview with al-Ahed news website, al-Ashqar assured the importance of this occasion and that it should be exploited properly.
Al-Ashqar praised the decision of Ismail Haniyeh, Palestinian PM in the Gaza Strip, to construct a national museum to demonstrate the sacrifices and agonies of the Palestinian detainees. He considered that such a museum would enhance the culture of persistence demonstrated in the ongoing battles the detainees have been living in defense of human dignity.

The activist viewed that this museum would also increase awareness and solidarity with the Palestinian heroes in "Israeli" prisons, and will be a renewable source for the different media outlets by that guaranteeing the delivery of the message to a wider spectrum.
The official pointed out the dire need for such facilities adding "the idea of this museum approved long ago yet it has not been implemented so far, and we look forward to see it in concrete soon."

For its part, Waed association for the detainees and liberated Palestinians stands behind the idea of establishing such a museum. Abu Naim, head of the association underscored that a major importance in the establishment of this museum is in providing the history of detainees and detention in "Israeli" jails to the coming generations.

He also called putting utmost efforts to document and expose the crimes of the occupation conducted against the brave detainees, with detainees Maysara abu-Hamdiya and Arafat Jaradat topping the list, as they were martyred lately behind the bars in "Israeli" prison due to medical negligence and severe torture respectively.
