Iran Celebrates Army Day, Reveals New Drone: We Contribute to Regional Security

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed Thursday that the Islamic Republic has always contributed to regional and international security.
Speaking during a ceremony at Imam Khomeini's Mausoleum in the south of the Iranian capital on the occasion of the National Army Day, the Iranian president praised the country's military progress and achievements during recent years.
"The Iranian Army is a role model for other independent armies across the world," Ahmadinejad pointed out, expressing his confidence that "the Iranian Army presently serves as an appropriate model for all independent armies of the world."
He emphasized that a nation requires power to safeguard its independence and take steps towards progress.
Ahmadinejad, who is also head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, noted that the Iranian Army is conducting its mission in full compliance with the commands of Leader of the Islamic Revolution His Eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei.
"Such an army safeguards national grandeur and security and will never be defeated," he emphasized.
The president further reiterated that the presence of Iran's Army in the Persian Gulf has played a significant role in maintaining security in the region, saying, "The presence of foreigners has been the root cause of insecurity in this region."
He said the Iranian Army conveys to other countries the message that power is based on reliance and belief in nations.
This comes as the Iranian Army displayed its latest home-made military tools, weapons and equipment in large military parades in Tehran.
During the parades, the Army units displayed different weapons and military tools and equipment, including different kinds of fighters, choppers, drones, ground-to-ground missiles, air-to-ground missiles, surface-to-surface missiles, tactical and armed vehicles, surface and underwater vessels, electronic and telecommunication equipment, light and mid-light weapons, different kinds of artillery and mortar-launchers, air defense systems and engineering and logistic equipment.
Also in the parades, Iran displayed a new drone on the occasion of the National Army Day.
The new drone, dubbed as Sarir [Throne], which is a long-range radar evading air defense aerial vehicle with the capability to carry arms and camera.
Meanwhile, Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli announced that Iran has started mass production of Sarir.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony, Esmayeeli said Sarir is a long-range, long-endurance radar evading air defense drone.
"Sarir is capable of carrying cameras and air-to-air missiles and tens of this UAV have so far been produced and used," he added.
