Cluster bombs have been another form of "Israeli" occupation to South Lebanon. An estimated 425,000 landmines continue to pose a daily threat to Lebanon's communities and more than 18 square kilometers of land remain contaminated by cluster bombs. The contamination continues to deny communities access to large areas of prime agricultural or grazing land and has a direct impact on their lives.

The munitions, which ordinarily release dozens of smaller sub-munitions, guarantee civilian casualties upon contact, and not when the bombs land, as they remain active and can potentially detonate at any given time.
