Ahmadinejad in Historic Visit to Cairo: Syria Strike due to Zionist Weakness

Iranian President President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that his visit to Egypt as the first visit by an Iranian post-revolution president would definitely overshadow the 34-year-long history of Tehran-Cairo ties.

Ahmadinejad will be the first Iranian head of state to visit Egypt since the 1979 Iranian revolution. He is due to attend a two-day Islamic summit in Cairo that begins on Wednesday.

Ahmadinejad also stressed that "the entire world, particularly the Middle East region, is exercising a fundamental change."
In parallel, he noted that "during his stay in Cairo, he would try to reach a common viewpoint with senior officials of that country on the changing situation both in the region and worldwide."
"Iran and Egypt are influential countries in both region and the entire globe," he confirmed, and pointed out that "Tehran-Cairo convergence on regional and world developments would benefit all nations."
Earlier, the head of the Iranian state confirmed that there are historic common grounds between Tehran and Cairo.

In an interview with al-Mayadeen, Ahmadinejad voiced his aspirations to visit the Gaza Strip and pray in al-Quds.
"There is no separation between Palestinian factions for Iran," he said, and pointed out that "Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is always welcome in Tehran."
He further voiced his country's readiness to assist the Palestinian people. "How can we help and assist? The Palestinian people will determine that."
On the Syrian front, Ahmadinejad reiterated Iran's position on the Syria crisis. "Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's fate must be in the hands of the Syrian people," he iterated.

Meanwhile, he confirmed: "I believe that [deciding] whoever stays or goes is the right of the Syrian people. How can we interfere in that? We must strive to achieve national understanding, and free elections."
"War is not the solution...A government that rules through war - its work will be very difficult. A sectarian war should not be launched in Syria," he told al-Mayadeen television.
The Iranian President also commented on the recent "Israeli" airstrike aggression against Syria. In this context, he viewed that "the "Israeli" attack in Syria is the result of Zionist weakness."
"We were hoping for different circumstances in Syria, that way it could have defended itself," Ahmadinejad said.
