Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed Sunday that "Israel" is trying to destabilize Syria by attacking a research center outside Damascus.

Al-Assad: In a meeting with Secretary of Iran Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili on Sunday, al-Assad commented for the first time on the recent airstrike on Jamraya, saying the attack has exposed Tel Aviv's collaboration with foreign-backed insurgents.
"The raid unmasked the true role "Israel" is playing, in collaboration with foreign enemy forces and their agents on Syrian soil, to destabilize and weaken Syria," he stated.

However, the Syrian president assured that his country's military was able to confront "current threats...and aggression against Syria."
"Syria, with the awareness of its people, the might of its army and its adherence to the path of resistance, is able to face the current challenges and confront any aggression that might target the Syrian people," al-Assad confirmed.
The Syrian president's remarks come after Syria warned the United Nations on January 31 of a possible surprise response to "Israel" following the Jamraya airstrike.

For his part, Jalili stressed Iran's support for Syria in confronting "Israel". He further underlined the need for fighting foreign plots and conspiracies which aim to destabilize the country.
"Iran supports an all-out national dialogue in Syria," he reiterated.

In parallel, the top Iranian official assured the Syrian president that the Muslim world would stand by Syria in its faceoff with the Zionist regime.

Jalili also met with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem during his visit to the country.
