A car bomb attack on a convoy of the US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan's strategic eastern province of Kapisa killed 12 American troops and destroyed two tanks.

Taliban: 12 US Troops Killed in Afghanistan BlastAccording to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, "The movement is responsible for the attack which took place at a market in Tagab district of Kapisa Province, northeast of Afghan capital of Kabul, Friday morning."
For his part, the spokesman for NATO's US-led International Security Assistance Force stressed that "no NATO troops were killed or injured in the attack in a village in Tagab district in the province, northeast of the capital Kabul."

Meanwhile, provincial governor General Mehrabuddin Safi said that at least five civilians have also been killed and 20 others injured in the Kapisa blast.
Civilian casualties inflicted by US-led troops have increased anti-US sentiments in the country.
The deaths have been the main source of friction between Kabul and Washington over the past years.

Less than a week earlier, a squad of suicide bombers attacked the Afghan intelligence agency headquarters, killing at least one guard and wounding dozens of civilians.
