Syrian Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Faisal al-Miqdad stated on Tuesday that no candidate can be ruled out in the Syrian presidential elections due next year, especially President Bashar Assad.

Al-Miqdad: Ballot Box to Decide Syrian Leadership In an interview with BBC, he considered that nothing prevents Syrian President Bashar Assad from running for the next elections, indicating, "Building a new regime in Assad's term is a credible one."

He added, "The President along with many candidates will address the people, announce their campaigns, and people will elect."
"The ballot box is the only place where the Syrian leadership will be decided," he reiterated.

Al-Miqdad had highlighted that Syrians "pave the way for a deeper democracy in the country," emphasizing that democracy doesn't prevent a person from running for elections.
Moreover, al-Miqdad stressed that "listening to what the armed groups and other parties have to say is a coup d'état."

On another note, al-Miqdad had stated on Monday that the political program to solve the crisis in Syria, which was presented by President Bashar Assad has revealed the truth of those who spoke about peaceful solutions in Syria and showed nothing but terrorism and killing of innocent Syrians.

He added that the UN Envoy to Syria, al-Akhdar al-Ibrahimi, after his recent meeting in Geneva, spoke on behalf of Russia and the United States, saying that they had agreed on a political solution which is considered as the essence of the Syrian program based on the UN Charter, the international legitimacy principles, the UN Security Council resolutions, and Geneva Statement.
