Iran Hails Syria’s Role in Freeing Abducted Pilgrims

Iranian House Speaker Ali Larijani stressed Thursday the establishment of peace and stability in Syria and praised Syrian government's role in the release of the kidnapped Iranian pilgrims.
In a message to his Syrian counterpart Jihad al-Laham, Larijani confirmed that "the Syrian nation and government would for sure overcome the problems."
Larijani also sent a message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in which he thanked him for helping release the Iranian pilgrims abducted by the armed rebels.Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony held at Mehrabad Airport to celebrate the freedom and arrival of 48 pilgrims, the Chairman of Iran's Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi noted that despite the negative role of some countries, Syrian government did its best to set free the kidnapped pilgrims.
He added that the release of Iranian pilgrims after 159 days of captivity has been made possible through an orchestrated effort and intensive talks.
He noted that Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, Foreign Ministry and Intelligence Ministry also played a role in the release of the pilgrims.
In parallel, the MP added that the Iranian nationals were finally released despite the destructive measures by a number of regional countries that tried to impede our efforts.
Boroujerdi added that Iran had been in contact with Qatar and Turkey which played a constructive role in the success of the efforts made to bring about the Iranians' freedom.
