An aide to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad welcomed Sunday Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's initiative for peace.
In a meeting on Sunday with visiting Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad, senior presidential advisor Mojtaba Samareh Hashemi said al-Assad's peace plan matches the six-point peace plan the Islamic Republic unveiled recently.
"The Syrian president's new initiative clears the way for a stronger presence by Syria in politics and in resolving [ongoing] problems, and I believe that anyone who claims to be a supporter of the Syrian nation and its progress must support this plan," Hashemi stated.
For his part, al-Miqdad said the majority of Syrians consider Assad a symbol of resistance, integrity and unity, and back him.
Earlier, the Iranian House Speaker Ali Larijani accused the Western states of being responsible of both the spiritual and physical damages to the Syrian nation.
In a meeting with the Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad, Larijani confirmed that "those states that support the terrorist groups in Syria are responsible towards what these groups do there; Tehran supports Syrian nation, government and leadership against the all-out aggression of foreign countries."
In parallel, the Iranian top official praised the Syrian nation, government and leadership's resistance towards outside plots and noted that Damascus enemies are doomed and the prospect for the Syrian nation is bright.
"Weakening Syrian government and leadership is against the regional security and stability and would be both political and security challenge to the region and Damascus' neighbors," he highlighted.
Moreover, he announced his country's support of economic and parliamentarian relations' expansion between Tehran and Damascus.
For his part, Syrian deputy foreign minister thanked Iran's all-out support for the Syrian nation.
"Syrian nation will not allow foreign states to interfere in the country's internal affairs," he reiterated.
