Syrian Opposition Member: al-Ibrahimi Initiative Last Chance for Bailout
Damascus - al-Ahed News
Mazen Moghrabieh, member of the politburo of the Opposing Third Movement for Syria and executive board member of the Peaceful Change Forces, reiterated, "The UN-Arab Envoy to Syria al-Akhdar al-Ibrahimi's initiative is a chance for political concession."
In an interview with al-Ahed News website, Moghrabieh stated, "In case al-Ibrahimi's political bailout is refused, it will be difficult to find any future political solution."
"Holding dialogue, forming a transition government with extensive powers, and keeping President Bashar Assad until 2014 is a good solution package but there are Russian-American differences on the President's powers during this period," Moghrabieh declared.
Moreover, Moghrabieh expressed fear that the Syrian conflict be turned into civil war, and then any political solution would be inapplicable even with dialogue. He added that dialogue in that case would be between war leaders in a sectarian regime, and every party believes to be able to destroy the other.
"The political scene indicated that France refuses before the US, Assad's stay in office under any compromise as the case is with the Doha coalition that refused negotiations with the Syrian regime," Moghrabieh accentuated, underscoring, "Russia exerts pressure to hold a comprehensive national dialogue to form a national unity government, however the Doha coalition refused in hope that it will militarily demolish the regime."
