"Israel" Fires on Golan, Ban Concerned: Tension might Escalate

"Israel" threatened Syria on Sunday with tough attacks if any shelling reaches the Occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
This comes after the "Israeli" army fired a Tammuz missile, also known as Spike, toward the Syrian army unit in the Golan Heights.
In its statement, the "Israeli" government threatened that "fire emanating from Syria into "Israel" will not be tolerated and shall be responded to with severity."
On Sunday, an "Israeli" military post was hit by a stray mortar shell fired from Syria. It was not clear whether the shell was fired by the Syrian army or the foreign-sponsored armed groups fighting against the Syrian government.
"Israel" occupied the Syrian territory on the strategically important Golan Heights in the 1967 war.
Later, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appealed to "Israel" and Syria to ease tensions amid warnings that conflict in Syria could spread.
"The secretary general is deeply concerned by the potential for escalation," said the UN spokesman Martin Nesirky.
In parallel, Ki-moon calls all sides for the utmost restraint and urges both side to uphold the 1974 accord which set up a ceasefire line.
"Syria and "Israel" must halt firing of any kind across the ceasefire line," added Ban, who has made repeated warnings that Syria's 20-month old conflict could spill over into battles with "Israel", Lebanon and Turkey.
