As Sandy hurricane battered US Eastern coasts Monday, election campaigns were adjusted, exchanges closed, and millions remained without power.

Sandy “Frankenstorm” Hits US Eastern Seaboards, Election Campaigns Rescheduled Post-tropical Sandy storm, swirling at 120kph, crashed the US Eastern seaboards Monday night, claiming fourteen lives in five states and Canada.
The storm killed 66 people in the Caribbean before it reached US coastal areas, 51 of the dead from Haiti.

An AccuWeather meteorologist said Sandy "is unfolding as the Northeast's Katrina," and others said Sandy could be the largest storm to hit the mainland in US history, according to The Globe and Mail website.
This hurricane came in parallel to a key US election week, where campaign schedules were adjusted and events cancelled until the storm blew through.
On this note, Candidate Mitt Romney cancelled an event scheduled in Virginia, a key election state, because of the storm and instead headed to Ohio.
President Obama, however, headed to Florida on Sunday rather than Monday.
Sandy storm caused power outages in all affected areas, including New York City and New Jersey, leaving 6.5 million people without power. A hospital in New York City moved around 200 patients after the power outages and failure of backup generators.

Economic loss is predicted to reach around $20 million, with subways flooded and commercial life halted.

United Nations cancelled all its meetings in its headquarters in New York.
No sign that this horrific post-tropical storm might end soon. In the meantime, what will the storm's aftermath hold for the U.S elections due on Tuesday, November 6?
