In Light of Truce, Syrian President Performs al-Adha Prayers

With the beginning of the truce brokered by UN Envoy al-Akhdar Ibrahimi, President Bashar al-Assad performed Eid al-Adha Prayers on Friday morning at al-Afram Mosque in al-Muhajirin area in Damascus.
Senior officials of the state, a number of the People's Assembly members and the Grand Mufti of the Republic, in addition to scholars and crowds of citizens performed the Prayers along with President al-Assad.
Following the Prayers, the President listened to the Eid sermon, delivered by Sheikh Walid Abdul-Haq, which underscored the great meanings of Eid al-Adha.
Sheikh Abdul-Haq referred to the words of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in the farewell sermon in which he called for regarding the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust.
Sheikh Abdul-Haq stressed the need under the difficult circumstances to adhere to national unity as the enemies of the Arab and Islamic nation are seeking its division and elimination through sectarian sedition.
He called upon the Syrians to get to solve their internal problems by means of accord, reconciliation and through reform and foil the enemies' attempts of stirring sectarian sedition.
On a related note, President al-Assad received on Thursday received a congratulatory cable from Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) Mohammad Abelsattar al-Sayyed, in which he offered congratulations and best wishes on behalf of himself and religious figures and Endowments Ministry workers.
In a similar cable, Grand Mufti of the Republic Dr. Ahamad Badreddin Hassoun offered congratulations and best wishes to President al-Assad and the Syrian people, praying that Eid al-Adha will herald comfort, blessings and victory.
