New Martyr in Bahrain, Crackdown Continues

People in Bahrain have held a funeral procession for Haj Mahdi Ali Marhun, who died due to inhalation of tear gas fired into his house by Saudi-backed regime forces.
The funeral for Marhun, who spent the last two months of his life in hospital after the attack, was held in the village of Maameer on Wednesday.
In Bahrain, the regime forces heavily rely on tear gas and stun grenades to disperse peaceful anti-government protesters. Several Bahraini civilians, mostly senior citizens and kids, have died from asphyxia after regime troops fired tear gas in residential areas and into homes in violation of international standards that Bahrain is a signatory to.
Meanwhile, in other parts of the country people took to streets to express solidarity with five imprisoned medics on hunger strike.
The medics, who have been in prison since early October, went on hunger strike on Sunday to urge international efforts for their release.
Moreover, the regime forces have arrested top rights activist Mohammed al-Maskati as Manama crackdown on opposition voices continues.
It was not immediately made clear on what charges Maskati, who is also the president of Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights, was arrested.
However, his detention comes days after he delivered a speech against the ruling al-Khalifa dynasty in Geneva.
Meanwhile, a court has rejected the request to release the head of Bahrain's Center for Human Rights, Nabeel Rajab, and postponed the hearing until next month.
Maskati and Rajab are among thousands of people detained in Bahrain since the beginning of anti-regime protests in the Gulf country.
