Al-Akhdar Ibrahimi, the United Nations envoy for Syria, arrived Wednesday in Saudi Arabia, where he is expected to meet Saudi officials on the Syrian crisis, which broke out in March 2011.
"The special envoy for Syria Ibrahimi has arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on the first stop of his second regional tour as an international envoy for Syria," the envoy's office declared.
It further mentioned that "in Jeddah, Ibrahimi will hold wide-ranging talks on the prolonged crisis in Syria."
This came as UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in Paris on Tuesday that Ibrahimi will visit Syria soon in a bid to mediate a cease-fire between the Syrian government and rebels.
Ban also suggested the international envoy could go to the Syrian capital next week if his meetings in the region this week were productive.
