Russia will defend the UN Charter principles with regard to the situation in Syria and a settlement of Iran's nuclear program.
This came in a statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov when delivering a report to the Russian Parliament's upper house Wednesday.
"Arbitrary interpretation of the UN Charter's most important principles is a threat to the world order," he said.
The head of Russian diplomacy further stated "the political elites of some western countries are still prone to bloc mentality."
"Some politicians would like to revive the image of Russia as a geopolitical enemy in what would help retain the strong military and political ties between the United States and the NATO European countries," he added.
Lavrov also highlighted that "direct communication between Turkey and Syria could resolve all misunderstandings between the two countries."
"The best way to solve a conflict is through direct contact. It is the easiest way to solve the issues. We are interested in the establishment of the direct ties between them," Lavrov said.
In parallel, he pointed out "the objective process of redistribution of power and influence is continuing in the world, with the role of Asia and the Pacific growing, so the region is turning into a leading economic development driver."
