Lebanese President Michel Suleiman urged Tuesday the Summit of South American and Arab Countries held in Peru to support an international legislation, that Lebanon intends to submit through the Arab League, aimed at prohibiting and criminalizing the insult of prophets and messengers.
Suleiman stressed that "such a move aims at respecting the freedom of belief and religious practice in the framework of respect for public freedom and human rights."
In parallel, he announced Lebanon's full readiness to place its capabilities at the disposal of establishing a secretariat general for South American and Arab countries Group, whose main headquarters would be in Lebanon.
"We will cooperate with all concerned parties in order to achieve the summit's purposes," Suleiman confirmed.
In parallel, the President emphasized that "achieving peace strengthens emerging democracies in the Middle East."
"Achieving peace will improve the basis of democracy in the Middle East if it resolves the aspects of the Arab-"Israeli" struggle according to international decisions," Suleiman, added.
He also reiterated that "an independent and free Palestinian state must be established, and the Palestinian refugees right to return must be respected."
