As the Lebanese national dialogue convened Thursday at the Presidential Palace, Lebanese President Michel Suleiman proposed his view for the country's defense strategy.

In parallel, the President gave the conferees more than a month to study and discuss his proposal ahead of the next 12 November.
In this context, "Change and Reform" bloc MP Hikmat Dib revealed that "MP Michel Aoun had presented, on the dialogue table, a paper outlining his position from the strategy defense."
Dib, Khreis: Defense Strategy Preserves Resistance Deterrence Power in Face of In an interview with "al-Intiqad" website, Dib confirmed that "based on Aoun's view, the resistance is one of the most important strengths in Lebanon that should not be abandoned."
"Abandoning it would weaken our country," he warned, and highlighted that "no one disagrees on the need to strengthen the state's militarily, political, economic and diplomatic abilities."
The MP further mentioned that "such an integrated strategy is built on the army's capacities, as the President's perception stated."
" Lebanon should not alienate the equation which imposes a balance of terror with the enemy , and which makes "Israel" think and calculate the consequences to any hostile action against Lebanon," he emphasized.
Dib pointed out that "General Aoun is open to various opinions and proposals suggested to defend Lebanon, in condition that these convince all sides."
Criticizing the minority's frequent calls for seizing the resistance arms by the state, the MP considered that "sovereignty is, for this team, seasonal and relative."
"Where was this sovereignty previously ?" he wondered and clarified that "there view is limited by the Syrian perspective and what they call as "Syrian attacks and violations"."
Dib also listed some of the needed characteristics of the defense strategy: " this strategy must be convincing, possible, and futile."
For his part, "Development and Liberation" bloc MP Ali Khreis stressed that "the defense strategy needs dialogue and discussion."
"We respect all the opinions and attitudes that are issued with respect to this subject, and there is a consensus to maintain the interest of Lebanon and the formula of coexistence according to the rule that the "Israeli" enemy seeks to harm and destroy our country," Khreis said.

Meanwhile, he urged all sides to consider "the resistance as sacred, given the fact of occupation and continuous "Israeli" threats."
"This stems from a purely national, not factional or sectarian angle" Khreis added.
He clarified that "We need a general consensus on the vision and strategy taking into consideration that the defense strategy won't be at the expense of the resistance."
In remarks to "al-Intiqad", the MP revealed that "President Suleiman's strategy included important items and needs to be studied."
"We are determined to discuss any strategy with openness away from chaos," he added and noted that "we will propose our vision for discussion until we receive all sides' consent."

Khreis explained that "upon discussing the defense strategy, House Speaker Nabih Berri will focus on the "Israeli" danger looming against Lebanon, its water, oil and gas resources."
"Berri will also stress the Zionist attacks and its exploit to some Lebanese weaknesses," he unveiled.
The MP hoped that "there is no intent to disable compatibility on the defense strategy, and that all sides carry honest intentions regarding the country's interest and the means to it from dangers."
As Khreis welcomed holding the dialogue table in these circumstances, he stressed "the need to seek a permanent dialogue, especially in light of the conspiracies being hatched against Lebanon."
