Palestine: Habbash, Atallah Condemn Anti-Islam Film
Local Editor
The Palestinian Authority religious affairs minister Mahmoud Habbash, along with the archbishop of al-Quds (Jerusalem) Atallah Hanna, on Thursday condemned a film made by a Jewish producer.
Habbash and Atallah said the film was offensive to Muslims as well as non-Muslims.
"New international legislation and laws should be enacted to criminalize anyone who attacks any religious beliefs or prophets," sources quoted Habbash as saying in an interview.
"We as Muslims condemn this attack against our Prophet, as it spreads discord between people, and attacks their religious beliefs and feelings," he added, warning also of overreacting.
"We will not use any violent methods to respond to this attack, however, we warn anyone against attacking or harming Islam or Muslim prophets.
"Furthermore, we call upon all people to promote dialogue between them."
For his part, Atallah Hanna, the head of Greek Orthodox church in al-Quds (Jerusalem), condemned the film and said "we support the Muslims and we condemn any attack against them.
"Those who attack Muslims now seek to attack all religions and to stir up sectarian strife," Hanna said in a statement.
Enraged Muslims poured into the streets during the past week to protest the sacrilegious anti-Islam film that was broadcast on different websites, that insist to keep disseminating the film. More peaceful protests are planned across the world to condemn the anti-Islam offense.
