The protestors burned US flags and effigies of President Barack Obama, and called to sever ties with Washington.
At least eight people were injured when protestors clashed with police outside the US consulate in Pakistan's port city of Karachi, officials said.

Police fired bullets in the air and used tear gas and water cannon to disperse some 1,000 people at the rally organized by a Shiite religious organization.
At one stage protestors broke through security cordons and got close to the heavily guarded US consulate, pelting the building with stones.
They chanted "Down with America", "We will sacrifice our lives to safeguard the honor of the Prophet" and "Hang the film maker."

City police chief Iqbal Mehmood told AFP at least 20 people were arrested.
Richard Silver, a spokesman for the U.S. consulate, said there had been no damage or injury to any personnel at the mission.
Also in Karachi thousands protested the mentioned film.
Elsewhere in Pakistan, more than 6,000 people gathered in the eastern city of Lahore to condemn the movie, according to local police estimates.

In Afghanistan, thousands poured onto the streets in the Afghan capital Kabul as well as the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar.
Thousands marched in Kabul, shouting "death to America."
Embassies in Kabul's heavily guarded central zone were placed on lockdown, including the US and British missions.
"We will defend our prophet until we have blood across our bodies. We will not let anyone insult him," said protester Jan Agha Pashtun. "Americans will pay for their dishonor."

In the northwestern city of Peshawar, thousands of university students, teachers and employees marched after boycotting classes, police said.
Protesters from another anti-US rally blocked a main road in front of Peshawar university, Khan said.

In Yemen, the US has suspended all consular services for two weeks after four people were killed in anti-American protests in Sanaa.
