Director of Military Intelligence: "Israel" will face an increasingly volatile region, more tense and Islamist than before
Channel 7

The annual intelligence assessment was presented by the Intelligence Division today, to the Chief of Staff, Benny Gantz, and to the General Staff of the "Israeli" army.

The annual intelligence assessment aims to display before the senior military leadership the developments in the strategic and operative environment of the state of "Israel", to determine the central threats in addition to the opportunities that arise as a result of the analysis of the regional battle.

This assessment is the basis for decision-making at the national and military level, and the infrastructure to develop operative plans for the "Israeli" army.
The annual intelligence assessment was developed by the research department in the Intelligence Division, as it was approved by the Chief of the Intelligence Division, Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi. The assessment is based on the gathering capabilities of the Intelligence Division, the intelligence community and the in-depth analysis to researchers in the research department. The assessment was displayed in front of the army's General Staff and the heads of the research department. After the approval of the Chief of Staff the assessment report will be presented at the political level.

Chief of Staff is expected to address the changes in the strategic and operative environment of the army and the State of "Israel" and to summarize the annual Intelligence Assessment of the "Israeli" army for the next year.
The head of the Intelligence Division, Maj. Gen. Kochavi, said today at the opening of the talks that "Annual Intelligence assessment which will be presented before you today is the result of a long, basic and comprehensive period of collection, preparation and research, overseen by the Research Department and based on gathering capabilities in the Intelligence branch and those that have been developed over the past year."

Maj. Gen. Kochavi noted that the Intelligence branch estimates that the State of "Israel" will face, next year, an increasingly volatile region in the coming year, one that is more tense and Islamist in nature than before. "The environment we are facing will lead to the need of dealing with a series of regional and internal crises that may ignite, even without prior notice, a war."

Director of Military Intelligence Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi said yesterday that "Israel" will face an increasingly volatile region in the coming year, one that is "more tense and Islamist in nature than before." Kochavi presented his annual intelligence assessment to Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz and the "Israel" Defense Forces' general staff.
According to Kochavi, the area is "experiencing a series of crises, both regional and internal, which add to the overall sensitivity of the players involved and could lead to unexpected flare-ups."

Kochavi opened his presentation saying that "the annual intelligence assessment is the result of a long and thorough process of research and analysis. The work is led by the research unit and utilizes all of the existing intelligence-gathering bodies in the intelligence branch, as well as ones developed last year."

The annual intelligence assessment is intended to present "Israel's" strategic and operative developments before the army's general staff, and to identify central threats and new opportunities.
Another play about Iran?

While Iran has refused to grant the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) watch-dogs the ability to access the military facility in Parchin, it noted yesterday that it is capable of allowing diplomats in Tehran to access and examine the facility in the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Mehdi Akhoundzadeh reported that it is likely to allow the secretary-general of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, who is also involved in the summit , to visit the military base, but his spokesman denied that such a visit will take place.

The surprising Iranian offer came after only three days of another failed round of talks between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency during which Iranians again refused to allow observers to access Parchin.
Moreover, the President of the Palestinian Authority, Abu Mazen headed yesterday to Jordan on his way to Iran, where he will participate in the conference. Abu Mazen did not confirm his attendance until after the Iranian organizers said that he is the only invitee to represent the Palestinian people.

The Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi is the last one to arrive at the conference in Tehran, in a first official visit to the Egyptian president to the Iranian capital since the Islamic revolution in 1979. "

Gulf countries speed up the supply of US arms
Source: "Maariv"

While most arms exporters in the world are suffering from a drop in sales due to the recession, the United States has doubled three times the sales of arms in the world, thanks to the Gulf States, which are being supplied with weapons, among other things because of the fear of Iran. Thus evidenced by a thorough report presented to the US Congress.

In 2011, the United States, arms' exporter No. 1 in the world, sold arms worth 66.3 billion dollars, and half that amount comes from the sales to Saudi Arabia. Fearing an armed Iran that threatens, among other things to strike US bases in the gulf region, increased the arms sales to these countries. Though the gulf countries are bordering the Islamic Republic, but their arms purchases are focused on advanced combat aircraft, defense systems and advanced anti-missile systems. The detailed information in the report is written by an independent research unit and was presented by the end of the week before the U.S. Congress. The report is the most comprehensive source of information to document the secret arms sales.
The total value of global arms sales market in 2011 was 85.3 billion dollars, while the United States spearheads the market steadily with 78 per cent of this value. Russia comes second with 4.8 billion, half the amount that it earned in the previous year. "
