The movement protest condemned the slate of recent arrests of people, who wrote messages in chalk on the streets, the local KTLA reported.
Also, the Los Angeles Rimes indicated that among the messages written in chalk were "Welcome to the police state," "Mat the youth rise," and "End the Fed."
Organizers of the "Chalk Walk", mainly Occupy LA activists, described the arrest of protesters as an "attempt to stifle dissent."

On their Facebook and Twitter social network pages, Occupiers stated, "We will be handing out free chalk for free speech."
KTLA further reported that "Chalk Walk" protesters were met by hundreds of police officers sent to control the protest as the crow grew more than a thousand people shutting down the intersection at Fifth and Spring Streets.

In this context, LA protesters asserted that the police officers used rubber bullets and batons to disperse the crowds. Eyewitnesses stated that the atmosphere was calm until the riot police showed up and triggered violence-causing clashes.
