Ground Forces to Implement New and improved hand grenades

IDF to receive two new types of grenades this year: one bullet-resistant fragmentation grenade and the other allowing improved tracking of enemy forces.
In the coming weeks, all IDF ground forces combat units will receive bullet-resistant fragmentation grenades. This new model features a safety mechanism that, when activated, will prevent a spark from detonating the grenade so that only ejecting the safety catch can set it off.

Maj. Yoav Galster, Combat Equipment Commander in the Land Forces Weapons Division said, "There are already dozens of these grenades in IDF possession. The use and operation will stay the same; there will only be a great leap forward in terms of safety. This is the first durable ammunition currently used by the Ground Forces."

He also stated that in addition to creating and distributing new grenades, the IDF is considering upgrading the safety mechanisms on old grenades, giving them the same safety features as the new models.

Before the end of the year, infantry soldiers will receive an additional type of grenade, known as launched smoke grenades. This smoke grenade can be fired from a launcher, in contrast to the present model, which can only be thrown. The improvement will allow soldiers to track enemy forces dozens of meters further than they currently can, giving them a significant advantage in battle.
"We can now hit the enemy and track the enemy's movements thoroughly in the field. While tracking enemy forces we will no longer give them an opportunity to fire back at us due to the grenades' short range. This development will greatly reduce risk during combat," said Maj. Galster.

Zionist MK Ayoub Kara Delusions: the fall of Assad would lead to the collapse of Hizbullah

Likud party website

Before thousands of participants in the ceremony "a step of improvement" held yesterday to mark the fourth anniversary of those killed in the northern settlement, Deputy "Israeli" minister and MK Ayoub Kara said that "the fall of the Assad has excellent reflections on "Israel", which will lead to the downfall of Hizbullah, and so perhaps the northern settlement will enjoy some tranquility and peace." He added, "The fall of Assad and Hizbullah would isolate Iran, which will force it to reconsider its one-sided nuclear program."

IDF deploys Patriot anti-missile system in Haifa

Lilach Shoval - Israel Hayom

Recently the Air Force deployed a new Patriot anti-missile defense battery at the Air Force Base" Stella Maris" in Haifa. Up to this hour, the reasons for installing the battery in Carmel are not yet clear, but a senior official at the Haifa Municipality noted yesterday that, "we did not receive any instructions from the army to put the municipality's emergency preparedness systems on alert." The security establishment refused to comment on this issue, and the IDF Spokesperson's Unit said, "We do not disclose details on operational deployments."
Patriot batteries, which are part of the air force's air defense system (formerly anti-aircraft system), were designed to intercept aircrafts. Since the 1990s, the American made system has also been used for the interception of ballistic missiles. The IDF sees the Patriot system as complementary to the "Arrow" (Hetz), another anti-missile defense system designed to intercept surface-to-surface long-range missiles.

This is not the first time the IDF has deployed an anti-missile system in Haifa: Patriot batteries were also deployed in the city during the Second Lebanon War, when the country was being attacked by Hizbullah missiles, and later, during the second Gulf War. Similar deployments were made during the first Gulf War in 1991, and according to western news sources, the army installed a Patriot system in Carmel after the assassination of senior Hizbullah leader Imad Mughniyeh in 2008.

Reconnaissance teams to have small radars

Jpost - Yaakov Katz

In an attempt to improve the ability of units to detect enemy forces, the army's ground forces leadership is developing a small radar that can be used in monitoring and reconnaissance missions.

Battalions and brigades of army depend on the unmanned aircraft systems and some electronic visual reconnaissance missions, but they are not equipped with radars, due to the relatively high cost and large size.
But the ground forces' leadership concluded a contract with local military companies for the development of small range radar up to some kilometers and doesn't weigh more than 20 kg so it can be carried by the soldier on his back.

The radars can be used by reconnaissance groups and armored battalions to be deployed in front of the main forces to look for enemy forces.

Then the data provided by the radar can be conveyed to the battalion command, where leaders automatically send unmanned aircraft to provide vivid images of the suspected enemy force.

A senior officer at the Ground Forces Command said, "This would allow the military forces to accurately watch any suspicious movements and engage in combat directly with the hostile targets."

The "Israeli" army uses 2 unmanned military aircrafts for his ground forces which are: Skylark 1, which is used by the battalions as part of the program "Sky riders" that involves the deployment of unmanned aircraft with each infantry battalion, and the Skylark 2, which is currently under evaluation along the border with Egypt before being delivered to the brigades of "Israeli" army.
