As the UN Special Envoy on Syria Kofi Annan is scheduled to arrive in Tehran in the next few days, Iranian officials slammed the outcomes of the so-called "Friends of Syria" meeting held in Istanbul last Sunday.
Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi "that Annan's visit which was initially slated for last week was postponed due to the envoy's tight schedule relating to his 6-point plan for Syria."

Salehi also hailed the fact that "Annan's plan was accepted", but warned that "the important thing about the plan was that all should be vigilant that other forces do not replace the Syrian government's forces once they evacuate their positions."
In another context, Member of the governing body of the Iranian Assembly of Experts Ayatollah Sayyed Ahmad Khatami stressed that "the aim of the Istanbul conference is to confront the resistance and prepare for normalization with the Zionist entity."

In an interview with "Mehr" news agency, Khatami viewed that "the ongoing events in Syria embody the confrontation between two fronts: the normalization with the Zionists versus the resistance against the occupation."
"The Syrian regime stands in the first line of the resistance front, that Iran and Hizbullah support," he added pointing out that "in the other side stand the United States, the Zionist entity, and the reactionary Arab regimes, led by the Saudi Arabia."

His Eminence further wondered "are human rights respected in countries like Saudi Arabia, to pursue the rights of opposition in Syria?,
"The KSA is an occupier as it entered Bahrain and brutally suppressed and tortured the Bahraini opposition," Khatami acknowledged mentioning the various types of "torture and repression and brutality against dissidents in Saudi Arabia."
Ayatollah Khatami went on to explain that "the main goal of the pressure on Syria is centered on avenging the Islamic awakening."

Similarly, Iranian House Speaker Ali Larijani said that "the "Friends of Syria" conference brought together those who wish to give the Zionist regime a new lease of life."

Speaking at an open session of the Parliament on Tuesday, he said, "The name of the recent conference in Istanbul, which was called "Friends of Syria", was not "Friends of Syria", but rather its name was "bribers of "Israel"" who met to breathe a new life into it."

Addressing those who participated in the conference, Larijani said, "If you are concerned about democracy in the region, why have you remained silent about the brutal dictatorship in Bahrain and dictatorial regimes in certain other countries?"
"Be vigilant not to give "Israel" a breathing room through taking such subsidiary measures now that the Zionist regime has become politically isolated," the Iranian Speaker confirmed.

For his part, Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi underscored that "if someone is a true friend of Syria, he should support the process of reforms in Syria."
"We should not accept that another unpleasant incident occurs in the region," Vahidi called.
