Imam Khamenei: Oil Source for Iran’s Economic Progress
Local Editor
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei has called on officials to pursue the policy of using oil as a source for further economic progress of the country.
"Based on the development plan, oil must stop being used as source of income and for funding the country's budget and instead become a source for the progress and economic might of the country and authorities must pursue this policy ...with determination," said the Imam on Monday.
Ayatollah Khamenei said countries that sell their oil based on the requirement and polices of Western companies may make money for their rulers, but will not reap true benefit by it.
These countries fail to make efforts to attain indigenous industries and will become undeveloped regions once their oil runs out, Imam Khamenei said.
Ayatollah Khamenei added that a country must itself decide on the production and selling of its oil in order to create a strong oil sector.
"It is necessary that we act in a manner that any decision making about our oil production and sales is up to us and based on our interests and of course we have taken good steps in this regard."
