Responding to Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Qassem's call, over 50% of Bahraini population flooded into streets chanting "down, down Hamad" in a reference to Bahrain's King Hamad bin Issa al-Khalifa.

In a show of solidarity against the Bahraini authorities' brutality, Friday large demonstration carried the title "At your Service, Bahrain."
Demonstrators also called for the immediate release of political prisoners and denounced the Bahraini dictatorship.

Neglecting the police helicopters that hovered and riot police units that were visible along the route, the march stretched for more than a mile (1.6 kilometers). Some opposition leaders estimated the crowd as hundred thousands of protesters making the protest the largest gathering since the street rallies erupted in February 2011.

Organizers said the march would end at Freedom Square outside Bahrain's capital, Manama. Police reinforcements were sent to keep protesters away from the heavily guarded Pearl Square in the capital, which was the center of the uprising for weeks last year until security forces stormed it and removed protesters by force.

The massive rally came also a reply to Bahrain's leadership, which has portrayed the uprising as losing steam ahead of next month's lucrative Formula One Grand Prix car race, which was canceled last year because of violence on the tiny island.
Tens of people have been killed in the unrest, and hundreds have been arrested in the gulf kingdom.
