Two Thirds of Local Authorities are Not Ready for War
Ma'ariv

The following information should bother the hundreds of thousands of settlers residing in dozens of towns in the "State of Israel", from Rosh Pinna in the north to Yeruham in the south.

An audit report conducted by the Home Front Command in 94 local authorities, with its content revealed here for the first time, states that only one third of these authorities are not ready for war, but also praises the authorities that are well prepared for the worst-case scenario. Another report, done by the authority of the National emergency, displays one of the hardest data.

During 2011 audit crews emerged from the Home Front Command, headed by officers of lieutenant colonel ranks, to examine the readiness and capacity of hundred of cities, the local council and the regional council in the state of emergency. The audit is of tremendous importance, particularly in light ofreports about the possibility of an "Israeli" attack on Iran that could lead to a heavy fire of rockets on "Israel" and the fear of leakage of chemical weapons from Syria to Hizbullah.

Crews examined all the cases at the helm of local authorities, including the case of public shelter, the plan of civil defense and the compatibility with relative threats, i.e. the amount of missiles that could fall in the region in time of war, the written administrative procedures of the "Home Front Command", the transitional system from normal life to the emergency, the information system to the public, the authority's budget for civil defense, the implementation of drills and guidance activities and others. The audit did not include cases of the Home Front Command direct responsibilities such as gas masks
.
Each of the authorities got an evaluative mark between zero and one hundred. The report that Yedioth Ahronoth received shows that 32 authorities received an "F", meaning less than sixty. The city of Beit Shemesh for example, got the mark 45. Sderot had a low mark, in particular, in terms of readiness to the state of emergency: 52.

The lowest mark was obtained by Eilot town near Nazareth: 28. 40 local authorities got a good mark. Safad obtained a "very good" mark, and the highest mark was obtained by the Upper Galilee Regional Council near the Lebanese border.

Eyes to the North, to Syria and Hizbullah
"Israeldefense".co.il - Amir Rappaport

While global attention is focused on the issue of whether or not "Israel" will attack Iran, the army's eyes are also observing the north - and are closely monitoring the bloodbath in Syria.

Chief of staff words from a few weeks ago, that the "IDF" is preparing to receive Alawite refugees, reflects one of several possible scenarios. The questions remains, what will happen the day al-Assad regime collapses? A much more worrisome possibility is that the collapse of the Syrian regime will be accompanied by missile fire at "Israel", in the sense of "I'm going down and taking you with me." Another possibility, more ominous, is the transfer of large amounts of qualitative weapons from the Syrian army warehouses to Hizbullah in Lebanon.

If Syria were to transfer very advanced antiaircraft systems to Lebanon, it's quite possible that "Israel" would choose to operate in the form of a preemptive strike in this scenario as well - before the S125 systems would enter operational use.

Gal Hirsch new deputy commander of Depth Corps
Ynet

Brigadier-General Gal Hirsch, who served as the Galilee division commander during Second Lebanon War, will be appointed as the new deputy commander of the recently established Depth Corps. Military sources said that Hirsch will be a central figure in the unit.

Hirsch, who is supported by the chief of staff Benny Gantz, has served as division commander of Galilee during the Second Lebanon War, but the report written by Major General Doron Almog, about the kidnapping operation of Hizbullah, which sparked the war of 2006, had criticized Hirsch and held him responsible, which led to his resignation from the army at the time.

But other reports also showed that Hirsch has good organizational capacity which he had shown during the war. According to military sources, Hirsch has another chance to prove that he is more responsible and enhance his reputation of 2006 war.

The Depth Corps command shall coordinate the operations of the elite units to carry out military operations in remote areas, its establishment is linked to the Iranian issue, and it's a basic result of the Second Lebanon War. "
