Doubts are raised on the expected visit of US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman to Beirut Wednesday.

The man who will arrive in Beirut on a two-day visit is expected to hold talks with senior Lebanese officials over matters concerning the security and political situation in the country.

"As-Safir" Lebanese daily uncovered that Feltman's meetings are to focus on the Lebanese security and political situation parallel to regional situation especially in Syria."

A US diplomatic source informed the paper that "Feltman will stress during his visit the importance of Lebanon's commitment to UN Security Council resolutions 1701 as well as the implementation of resolution 1559 aiming at disarming the resistance."

Noting that Feltman's visit was scheduled weeks ago and isn't related to the funding of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, "as-Safir" mentioned that "the US diplomat official is expected to meet President Michel Suleiman, , House Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Najib Mikati, "National Struggle Front Leader" MP Walid Jumblatt, and "March 14" figures."
