Shapiro: All Options are on the Table

Channel 2 website - Danna Weiss

In an interview on Channel 2 program "Meet the Press", US ambassador to "Israel", Dan Sahpiro said that "all options are on the table" on the issue of attacking the Iranian nuclear facilities.

Shapiro also said that the US goal is to prevent the Iranians to develop nuclear weapons and that they intend to intensify sanctions against Iran.

Pointing to the "Israeli"-American joint efforts against the Iranian nuclear program, Shapiro stressed that "our efforts are very coordinated, and our goal is to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon."

"We coordinated with "Israel" and many other countries in the international community to consolidate the most intensified sanctions ever against Iran. The overall of these sanctions had a real impact, as they are accompanied with other sanctions imposed by the US and other countries, which affected Iran's economy, its energy sector, its transportation industry and its banking industry," he viewed.

On IAEA's report, Sahpiro commented that the US will keep on intensifying sanctions against Iran.

"The report is very decisive and demonstrates Iran's apathy towards the pledges given to the international community, and there are serious concerns in regards to its nuclear program and its possible military implications. This places the groundwork for additional sanctions and more pressures, which we also formulate with our partners from "Israel" and other states."

"For the meantime, we focus on the sanctions' option," he added.

Asked whether ""Israel" will inform the US of its attack on Iran," the ambassador answered: "We are fully coordinating with "Israel" and this is the strategy."

Friends Do Disagree

During the interview, Shapiro was asked about the overheard comments Barack Obama told Nicolas Sarkozy about him having to bear Netanyahu every day.

"I was not there and I have no intention to talk about it. I can tell you that president Obama and PM Netanyahu have an excellent business relationship. I guess that friends disagree sometimes, as we have many common interests and we do not agree on everything, and that's normal," he stressed.

As for "Israel's" repeated requests to release Jonathan Pollard, Shapiro said he can't say much.

"Pollard is serving his sentence as a punishment of the fatal felony he committed,"the ambassador said.

Lieberman: No Reason to Dismantle the Government

Army Radio

FM Lieberman emphasizes that "I won't stick to my seat if there are contradictions between the government policies and the party's principles- but there is no reason to dissolve the government if there is a willingness to reach a compromise."

Speaking to the Army Radio, Lieberman also referred to the recent developments in Cairo (we keep an eye and wish them good luck) and the rumors about a split in his coalition (don't believe the headlines).

"We are not looking for excuses to dismantle the government," FM Avigador Lieberman assured tonight (Monday).

In an interview with our program "five o'clock", Lieberman stressed that "if there will be fundamental contradictions to our viewpoints, I won't stick to the chair and I have left it before - but if there is a willingness to compromise and listen, then there's no reason for this government not complete its full term."

According to the minister, "there has always been an incitement against the outposts, and there is always this perception of some eccentric sitting beside the road with his broken trailer and a few sheep - yet this is about established settlements that the state pushed the people to built, and it's unacceptable to renounce its responsibility."

"There are some cases that are being directly filed to the government instead of resolving them at the High Court - and this is one of them," he continued stating that "there is no reason for bulldozers to flatten the outposts ."

Foreign Minister also discussed the sensitive situation in Cairo, and said that "it is too early to assess how things will go there, and even if we have estimates we should keep them to ourselves. Now we're watching, and we have several contacts Egypt, as with the United - States and Europe. But the problem of Egypt now is the political and economic stability."

"Next week elections will commence, and this is a long and complex process. We have to wait and see how it goes, and wish them luck," he reminded.

"There is no need to go into each headline," added the minister, "this government succeeded in many domains. The United Nations General Assembly referred to a 'political tsunami' - it did not happen. Same with the Security Council, UNESCO, Report of Palmetto, and naval and aerial flotillas - all of them wrote and warned before, and everyone knows how it ended."

"We are in much better shape than some commentators would like to believe," he said pointing out that "this week four or five heads of state came here, yesterday I met personally with two presidents and later this week a large delegation from Romania will arrive. Stop whining all the time, and begin praising."

"Indeed, there were differences in opinion between my coalition and the Mossad," admitted the minister, "this is not the first time and probably will not the last time. There were differences of opinion among various agencies and there will always be. But they manage their issues at their best, and all pursue their work as usual."

Nechushtan's visit, inter alia, comes as a result to the diplomatic crisis with Turkey, which lead to sever cooperation between the two countries with regard to joint air exercises.

Meanwhile, India and "Israel" continue to silently expand their ties in the fields of "defense" and homeland security, at a time when "Israel" is threatening military action to quell Iran's nuclear ambitions despite India seeking a diplomatic resolution.

Maj. Nechushtan is slated to meet in the coming days his army and naval counterparts and other government officials.

In addition, few weeks ago, "Israeli" minister of public safety Yitzhak Aharonovitch, visited India and held discussions with Indian government officials to expand ongoing cooperation, intelligence-sharing and internal security of both countries. It should be noted that the visits were low-profile, due to their political sensitivity.

Since Turkey has decided to sever diplomatic relations with the "Israeli" government, cooperation between the armies halted, and ever since "Israel" is looking for an alternative country with a vast training areas to cooperate with.

Meanwhile, few months ago the "Israeli" Aircraft Industries moved to India the 3rd Falcon jet, as part of a $ 1.1 billion deal signed in 2004
.
IAI CEO Yitzhak Nissan, visited India several times in the past months, in order to sign expansive deals with the Indian Army - including negotiations on additional sales of the "Falcon" aircraft to the Indian army, at a cost of half a billion to a billion dollars.
