Wahab: STL Not to Be Funded from Lebanese Gov’t, From Foreign Sides
Head of "Arab Tawhid Party" Wiam Wahab viewed that "what is presented from theories on the mechanism of financing the Special Tribunal for Lebanon will not lead to the result that the tribunal's officials hope."
In an interview with "al-Anbaa" Kuwaiti newspaper, Wahab reiterated his position that "the STL carries out purely political duties by accusing more than half of the Lebanese in the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri."
Emphasizing that the STL won't find a way to its finance whether from the Lebanese government or from outside," he considered that "postponing the discussion of the general budget to avoid the financing of the tribunal's item is not a wise choice."
"In light of the democratic system and institutions' rule, the most appropriate and safest solution is to vote the funding item within the Council of Ministers if no agreement was reached," he added.
"No one can compel the Lebanese to surrender to international resolutions, especially since the US is the most disclaiming country to those resolutions through its silence on "Israel's" failure to apply them," Wahab stressed.
