The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei has issued a message paying tribute to martyrs of the Islamic Revolution and the Imposed War with Iraq.

The message was published on Thursday coinciding with the first day of the "Sacred Defense Week" (which commemorate the braveries of Iranian soldiers who fought in the 1980-1988 Iraqi-imposed war and defended their country from enemy aggressions) which is designated as the day to pay tribute to martyrs and veterans of the eight-year Iran-Iraq war.

Praising the memory of martyrs, the Leader also appreciated patience and "unique steadfastness" of their families as a factor which made the Iranian nation stands out in history.

"Today, the progress and prominence of the country and its profound impact on the awakening of the Islamic world has once more proved the value of sacrificial struggles of our endeared martyrs," the spiritual leader continued in his message.
He thanked God that the blood of martyrs has not been spilt in vain and that their sacrifices have brought new life to the Islamic ummah.
