Najad: West Aims to Impede Muslims ProgressIranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says hegemonic powers seek to sow seeds of discord among regioal countries in an attempt to impede their progress.

"Hegemonic powers sow discord among regional countries to keep them backward and impede their progress," President Ahmadinejad said in a Friday meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari, according to IRNA.

The Iranian chief executive pointed out that the enemies of regional Muslim countries have targeted their unity and solidarity to weaken them, urging them to stick to their values.

"Unity, brotherhood and solidarity are highly significant values among regional Islamic countries and a source of power for them," he added.

"Islamic countries need to insist on their values, rights and interests ... and maintain their solidarity," he went on to say.

President Ahmadinejad noted that regional issues could only be solved through regional solutions and said foreign countries only seek their own interests in the region.

He further explained that the improvement of scientific and economic cooperation would protect the independence and interests of regional countries.

President Ahmadinejad also called for more cooperation with regional countries and said the Islamic Republic sees no restriction to the expansion of economic ties with regional countries, including Pakistan.

Zardari, for his part, said that hegemonic powers seek to dominate the world economically and impose their views on regional countries.

The Pakistani president called for close cooperation among regional countries in order to stand up to hegemonic powers' plots aimed at creating divisions among regional nations.
