Amnesty Int.: Bahrain Trials Highly Alarming

The Amnesty International has slammed the prison terms for Bahraini protesters, saying such unfair trials in the Persian Gulf state are "highly alarming."
In unfair trials, Bahraini regime has sentenced eight more anti-government protesters, including a woman, to between one and four years of imprisonment for "participating in illegal demonstrations and inciting hatred against the regime" during popular protests in February and March, the rights group said on Wednesday.

In unfair trials, Bahraini regime has sentenced eight more anti-government protesters, including a woman, to between one and four years of imprisonment for "participating in illegal demonstrations and inciting hatred against the regime" during popular protests in February and March, the rights group said on Wednesday.
"These eight activists appear to have been sentenced to jail terms for doing no more than exercising their legitimate right to demonstrate," said Malcolm Smart, Amnesty's director for the Middle East and North Africa.
The defendants, who were held without arrest warrants, were denied their basic rights of meeting family members and had very limited access to lawyers, Smart said.
Among the eight sentenced was Fadhila Mubarak Ahmad, the first woman to be convicted. She was sentenced to four years.
