Belgian journalist and writer Kris Janssen said on Friday that what is currently taking place in Syria isn't related to internal causes but is rather the result of external manipulation in sabotage aiming to damage or even destroy Syria due to its policies of resistance, Arab solidarity and anti-imperialism, reported SANA.

Janssen, known for his honest writing that is translated into several languages, said that Syrian policy caused feelings of frustration and revenge in some major powers in the west who believe that Syria should be punished or even destroyed because of these policies.

The widely-read writer said the attack on Syria would stop if it abandoned its firm principles of the Arabs' right to self-determination and if it pledges to succumb to external pressure.
Janssen noted that Syria has always supported the Palestinian cause and fought against "Israeli" aggression, falling victim to this aggression when "Israel" occupied the Golan in 1967.

He noted that Syria condemned the US invasion of Iraq in March 2003 and took in most of Iraqi refugees, providing safety and services to around 1.5 million of them, adding that most Palestinians in Syria have the exact same rights as Syrian citizens.

Janssen went on to say that Syrian policy protected against western interference in Arab affairs, and that Syria always believed that differences among Arabs must be resolved by the Arabs themselves amicably, using the assistance provided by Syria to Fateh and Hamas as an example.
He said that watching the various channels such as al-Jazeera, BBC, CNN and al-Arabiya, who are using all available methods to fabricate false and disturbing stories to agitate people and mislead public opinion outside Syria, is additional proof that what is happening in Syria is a result of foreign plots.

Janssen noted that Syria always managed to avoid poverty and sharp social disparity, stressing that the Syrian society is based on solidarity rather than exploitation as in other countries in the region, with Syria achieving much without having massive resources of gas and oil.
He concluded by noting that all Syrians mingle freely and support each other in a society based on mutual respect.
