After the Iranian ships arrived in the Lattakia Port in Syria, the Iranian Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Habibullah Sayyari and his Syrian counterpart, General Taleb Al Barri signed a bilateral cooperation agreement for joint training programs.

IRNA news agency reported that the agreement was signed aboard the Khark Iranian vessel, which was accompanied by other ship, Alvand, and were the first ships to leave Iran through the Suez Canal after the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

By the time the ships head off towards Lattakia, Tehran issued a statement in which it said that its warships are "on a routine and friendly visit and carry the message of peace and friendship to world countries".

The Iranian Naval delegation will remain for a 6 day visit in Syria in order to dig more regarding bilateral Iranian-Syrian cooperative naval relations.
