Resigned Energy and Water Minister, Gibran Bassil confirmed that the opposition forces seek the formation of a new government with a different Prime Minister, and various majority representations.
In an interview with Sharq Al Awsat newspaper, Bassil clarified that the opposition aims at providing parliamentary majorities on the formation of the new government, and excludes having the Future Movement in the Prime Ministry, and Saad Hariri as the Premier.
Bassil urged the Future Movement to cope with the idea of representing the majority of the Sunni sect, without having to occupy the position of the Prime Ministry; a position which represents the Sunni sect according to the Lebanese political system.
Minister Gibran Bassil denied any intention to accept having Saad Hariri as the new PM in return for constitutional reforms that give back the Presidency some of its powers.
Bassil also denied having any intention to target the Sunni sect, also affirming that Syria will not interfere in the formation of the new government.
