Khalifeh Says Fate of Government Determined Based on PM Hariri Reaction
Health Minister Mohammed Jawad Khalifeh on Wednesday said that "The fate of the government will be determined in the next few hours based on the reaction of PM Saad Hariri on the Opposition's demand to set a date for an extraordinary Cabinet session,"
In an interview with Al Nour radio station, Khalifeh clarified that the opposition has not yet received a "definite stance" in this regard, adding that the opposition will meet at 4:00 on Wednesday to determine the next steps.
Khalifeh, in response to a question said "The government will become a "former" government with "former MPs and PM if no decision to convene a ministerial session is taken today.
He considered the equation as simple "If a date is set for the ministerial council to convene, then there will be a government, otherwise, there will be no government."
Khalifeh criticized the pretext that there is no time for a meeting to end the crisis, noting there it is not possible to wait any longer especially after the Syrian-Saudi initiative reached a deadlock.
On the same note, Al Jazeera channel quoted a ministerial source as assuring that the opposition ministers will resign today from the government. The channel, according to leadership sources in the opposition said that State Minister Adnan As-Sayyed will also announce his resignation along with the opposition ministers.
