Minister Fneish: We Await President Suleiman’s Response on Demand to Hold a Ministerial Session, Our Meeting is Open
State Minister for Administrative Development Mohamad Fneish assured that "the opposition agreed on not letting the country suffer from government paralysis, clarifying that out of this concern, the opposition contacted President Michel Suleiman and held a meeting with him."
"We demanded the Cabinet convenes so as to deal with the developments and take the necessary stance on the course of events, particularly the Special Tribunal of Lebanon and the indictment that has caused divisions and problems at the national level. The president hoped that he be given a chance to contact PM Saad Hariri. We are waiting for a response from Suleiman and Hariri," Fneish said.
In response to a question on whether there will be any action soon, Minister Fneish said "There is still a chance tonight and tomorrow morning. If the response was positive and a Cabinet session was called, then we will discuss all matters within the framework of the government. The country is to witness developments and is the target of the indictment and the STL and its politicized role."
On the Syrian-Saudi efforts, Fneish said "There was an Arab effort which we dealt with positively. We even bargained on it. However, as a result of US interference and the inability of the other side to deal with it, this effort reached a deadlock," Fneish said.
The opposition meeting included all its ministers in addition to the Free Patriotic movement leader MP Michel Aoun, Hizbullah SG political advisor Hussein Khalil, Lebanese parliament Speaker's political advisor Ali Hassan Khalil, and the Secretary General of the Tashnaq party Hovic Mokhtarian.
