Dean of the liberated detainees Smir Kintar said that President Bashar Al Assad assured that "the international tribunal for Lebanon and the indictment are an attempt target the Resistance and change the situation in Lebanon in a way that serves the other team." According to Kintar, Assad also said that Damascus sees the annulment of the indictment is considered a direct collapse to a new "17 May agreement."

Kintar, in a statement to Al Intiqad electronic newspaper, revealed that the Syrian-Saudi initiative is almost complete, explaining that the S-S conciliation is based mainly on rejecting the indictment, which is a matter of consent among the concerned parties. He further noted that the illness of the Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdel Aziz led to the delay in the finalization of this initiative.

The dean of the liberated detainees also pointed out "President Al Assad is facing American attempts targeting this conciliation, particularly during King Abdullah's stay in New York for treatment, where incessant American efforts were made to fail this initiative."
On another note, Kintar said the Syrian President had expressed unease towards some voices in Lebanon that are trying to foil the efforts, and was convinced these voices will fade with the occurrence of the conciliation.

On a related note, one of Damascus's visitors revealed to Al Intiqad that "Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri agreed on the rejection of the indictment and the special tribunal for Lebanon only after a clear Saudi interference."

President Bashar Al Assad on Monday reviewed with Samir Kintar the latest developments in Lebanon and the role of the resistance in protecting it from dangers that threaten its security and stability. The two sides stressed the importance of resistance to restore the Arab rights.
Kintar presented a copy of his book "My Story" to President Al Assad. The book narrates the story of Kintar during his detention for more than 30 years in "Israel's" jails. It also tells about the victories of resistance which supported his steadfastness in the face of "Israel's" torture.

Kintar was born in1962 in the Lebanese village of Abey. He was apprehended in 1979 during an operation to capture "Israeli" soldiers and exchange them for captives in "Israeli" jails.
Through hunger strike, Kintar managed to earn the right for education through correspondence and got a degree in human and social sciences in June 1997.
