Berri: I will Not Yield, My Proposal is Realistic and Objective
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri clarified that he does not see an exit that is more realistic and objective than his offer to address the false witnesses' issue, of whom some are "keener to protect them than to worry about the country and its people."
In a statement to As-Safir newspaper, Berri addressed the campaign held by the March 14 against him saying "I will not yield;" wondering "How some in the March 14 campaign can just pay attention I am part of the March 8 campaign." He pointed out "For their information, March 8 was born here in Ain Al Tineh, where its leaders met in pivotal stations."
Berri noted that breaking the law and the constitution became an opinion in the country, and therefore the false witnesses' file turned into a file that does not deserve being transferred to the Justice council, not only that but also some of them do not even acknowledge its existence.
On another note, Berri said the stance of PM Saad Hariri on Imam Khamenei's statement is good. Hariri had said on Tuesday "We have nothing but respect for Ayatollah Khamenei, and we fully respect all of his opinions, which he is free to hold."
Berri also considered that the major issue the West has against Iran is not the nuclear file, but its strict stance against "Israel". He assured that if the "Israeli" embassy had remained in Tehran, the Islamic republic would have been the spoilt country of the region.
Moreover, Berri commented on the issue of oil which he described as sensitive. He denounced the Lebanese government's negligence to the issue, while the "Israeli" enemy is working relentlessly to extract the natural oil riches and grab our rights, while we are busy whether the false witnesses should be prosecuted or not.
Parliament Speaker called on the Lebanese government to speed in finish the required arrangements with Cyprus in order to demarcate the maritime borders. He underscored that "time is not on our side, and there should be swift action to protect our oil resources from "Israeli" piracy".
