During the past hours, discussions have focused on the ministerial council which will convene on Wednesday for the first time after more than a month of hiatus.

It is feared that a political storm would rise in case the controversy remains over how to deal with the false witnesses' file, which will be the first item to be discussed on the council's agenda. So far, it seems that the only issue agreed on is that the council will convene after tomorrow (Wednesday), while it is still unclear how things will go.

In this context, As-Safir newspaper revealed that the efforts of Lebanese President Michel Suleiman focused on attempts to conciliate between the two campaigns in the council.

While PM Saad Hariri says "Whether the ministers agree or not on the false witnesses' issue and resolve it, the council should move on to discuss the other items on the agenda," the opposition insists that "the false witnesses' file should be resolved before discussing any other item on the agenda."

According to sources, Lebanese Speaker's political advisor MP Ali Hassan Khalil visits the Lebanese President today, Monday in context of discussing the possible scenarios of the council session. This while President Suleiman continues his discussions with the two sides in order to reach a compatible formula that suits all, and avoid voting on this issue to avoid a further split among the ministers.
